Why This Series Exists
Ukrainian Jewish Heritage was created to counter distortion, fill gaps in public understanding, and bring clarity to a relationship deliberately misrepresented by outside narratives.
The series examines the long, intertwined histories of Ukrainians and Jews. It plays a prominent role in the mandate of Nash Holos to document, share and celebrate the diverse cultural narratives that shape Ukrainian identity in Ukraine and the diaspora worldwide.
How It Began
The goal of Ukrainian Jewish Heritage began with a mission to counter distortion, fill gaps in public understanding, and bring clarity to a relationship deliberately misrepresented by outside narratives.
It was shaped by conversations with community leaders, scholars, and eyewitnesses who understood how much of this shared history had been forgotten, ignored, or deliberately obscured.
For seven years, UJH was produced in partnership with the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE). Their support enabled access to scholars, archives, and community voices whose insights shaped a substantial body of work still referenced on UJE’s website.
The Stories It Tells
The series is a mosaic of stories about people and places that challenge assumptions and open doors into worlds many listeners have never encountered.
It introduces listeners to projects, publications, and research that deepen understanding of the complex relationship between Ukrainians and Jews across centuries. Conversations with authors, scholars, and community leaders examine Jewish life in Ukraine, the evolution of Ukrainian‑Jewish relations, and contemporary efforts to preserve memory and document lived experience.
